If these streets could speak… Doña Flora Rivera said with a slight smile, a nice old lady that every afternoon watches as people pass by through the Melchor Ocampo Square in Morelia. This was one of the first cities built by the Spaniards in the lands of what was the Nueva España (New Spain), back in the year of 1541 under orders of the first viceroy Antonio de Mendoza. Before the city was built, this great Valley of Guayagangareo –as our ancestors called it and which now is Morelia- was populated by tribes related to the Teotihuacan people and the Purepechas who were the people native of this place.
