> History: In the last century, amid an economy that apparently was booming, important public buildings were built in Coatepec, of prime importance in shaping a modern city in the late nineteenth century. It had since then a splendid cantonal school, which since then is called Benito Juárez, in which it began to apply the latest teaching methods of the time. The population also had a civilian hospital, a municipal cemetery and the Cantonal Palace, which certainly left unfinished.

In those years were traced and shod new streets, some bridges were built of stone, set up water supply, street lighting was introduced. By then, Coatepec boasted a phone line. On one side of the Cantonal School, opposite to the Hidalgo’s Park, is located the City Hall, which according to the written and existing graphics, remained unfinished at the end of the nineteenth century. This property, built with the region techniques and formal and decorative elements similar to other buildings, as of the facade of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, of the choir schools and the Joaquín Ramírez Cabañas high school, was happily concluded after nearly a century.

The Coatepec City is distinguished by the care and beauty of the main park, private gardens and walks toward the old plantations. Hidalgo’s Park, unlike other public areas of the country, has preserved and renovated both its original vegetation, such as the stroke of their “between-streets” and harmonic growth, respecting their visual shots and their memorials. From there, the incredible variety of fragrances and chiaroscuro that poke out of windows and doors, invites you to browse and please the senses: taste a cup of the regional coffee, or a nanche or morita liquor, to enjoy a masafina or a cottage cheese bread made in a wood oven yet. It's nice to walk through the various outlets to farms and ranches as the Trianón, El Grande, Zimpizahua, La Orduña and Zoncuantla, on the outskirts of the current population.

From the Hill of “Las Culebras”, proud emblem of the population can be seen, both the layout of the city, as the profiles that are accentuated with towers and domes of its churches.

From there we can see the heights of the mountain, Pico de Orizaba and Cofre de Perote and the unmistakable Cerro de San Marcos and the town of Xico. This is a vast region that invites to know it, live it and enjoy it as another space of this Mexico in Time.
