Mexico City, Industrials in the housing sector must be capable of creating and building beyond economic situations and emergencies, if not it would be difficult to achieve a sustainable housing development, assured by the director of Infonavit, Víctor Manuel Borrás. In the frame of the first International Forum for Sustainable Housing carried out in the Sheraton Hotel in Mexico City, the official said that if environmental houses, neighborhoods and cities are built, that will be the response to the fair claim of workers to have a house that offers them harmony in a stronger, more modern and humane Mexico.

Facing businessmen of the sector, academics and federal, state and municipal authorities, the officer ratified the commitment of the institution with the workers.

“We ensure not only the grant of more credit, but this will be channeled to the purchase of better houses, built in competitive and sustainable urban surroundings that ensure the full development of their inhabitants”, he stated.
He did not doubt in stating that the country is facing a complicated economic stage, result of the international crisis.
“As an institute and knowing about the responsibility it brings being the main housing credit provider in Mexico, we have applied the necessary measures to impulse the demand and the housing train at a national level”.

He said that these measures have worked and added that in the last months they have seen a recovery in the granting of credits, and therefore they foresee an active end of the year in relation to formalization of new operations.
The general director of the Comisión Nacional de Vivienda (Conavi), Ariel Cano, said that the sector has had an impressive growth in the last decade, with an average yearly growth rate of 17 percent.
“This has allowed that millions of families have access to a house. However, this impressive performance is necessary but not enough. The country and the society face important challenges in safety, education, efficient use of natural resources and people coexistence issues”, he added.

He said that housing can and must be a transformation factor for Mexican families and sustainable housing one of the main objectives.

“Environmentally sustainable, so that natural resources are not affected; energetically sustainable, to create savings in the use of electricity, gas and water; financially sustainable, so that it creates patrimony and added value in time, allowing the maintenance of mortgage guarantees; economically sustainable so that it enters the regional development, competitiveness.
“But above all, socially sustainable where there is community life, integration of the social knit and urban surroundings that favor the healthy development of its inhabitants”, he explained.
The International Forum for Sustainable Housing gathers on Thursday and Friday (September 10 and 11) specialists in the subject from Mexico, USA and Europe, who will analyze issues such as housing renovation, urban planning social cohesion, optimization of urban lands and house added value, neighborhood improvement and energy efficiency in the habitat among others.
